چکیده

Southeast Asia is particularly susceptible to the negative impacts of increasing coastal pollution as populations and cities grow at unprecedented rates. Although water chemistry can be monitored, there are greater advantages in using bioindicators reflectors combined effect multiple types on ecosystem health for early detection pollutants biotic systems. This study explores utility application ostracods examines response ostracod assemblages variable Lap An Lagoon, central Vietnam. From 14 sites within lagoon, 79 species 46 genera were identified sediment grain size, total organic carbon, matter heavy metal concentration measured. Cluster analysis, detrended correspondence analysis canonical four distinct biofacies that highly correlated physical environmental variables (salinity, depth, type, concentrations, carbon matter) shown main factors controlling biofacies. Low diversities found silty sediments with concentrations likely toxic. Sinocytheridea impressa was indicative a marginally polluted environment lagoon. provides evidence potential Asian used quality assessments data collected baseline future monitoring. • Baseline lagoon Abundance cosmopolitan benthic more sites. Potential specific bioindicators. Modern from Vietnam, excellent applications throughout Asia.

Ostracods as indicators of pollution in the lakes of Mysore.

Ostracods are small crustaceans found in aquatic habitats and the present paper deals with the role of water quality index on their population diversity and seasonal fluctuations in the four lakes of Mysore city The present investigation was carried out from July 2004 to June 2005. The study revealed highest water quality index and population density of ostracods during summer and least during ...

Metal-binding proteins as metal pollution indicators.

The fact that metal-binding proteins are a consequence of elevated metal concentration in organisms is well known. What has been overlooked is that the presence of these proteins provides a unique opportunity to reformulate the criteria of metal pollution. The detoxification effect of metal-binding proteins in animals from polluted areas has been cited, but there have been only very few studies...

Polychlorinated biphenyls in sediments of the Tam Giang-Cau Hai Lagoon, Central Vietnam.

The Tam Giang-Cau Hai Lagoon, the largest in south east Asia, suffers from a great anthropogenic pressure and appears subject to a process of progressive environmental deterioration. To establish causes, history and trends of lagoon contamination, sediment samples representing three major parts of the systems were sampled and analysed for porosity, organic carbon, total nitrogen, delta(13)C, gr...

Bacterial indicators of pollution of the Douala lagoon, Cameroon: public health implications.

BACKGROUND Indiscriminate disposal of untreated wastes which are often heavily laden with sewage microorganisms some of which are pathogenic to humans into aquatic environments near cities could serve as potential dangers to human health. OBJECTIVE A prospective study was undertaken to investigate the scope of potential bacterial pathogens and to assess the extent of pollution of the Douala l...
